I guess the best way to determine the basics of cancer treatment is to find out the different courses of treatment available for the particular type of cancer. It is important that the patient undergoing treatment set and maintain a positive outlook regarding their treatment. No treatment will be completely effective if the patient doesn''t have a positive attitude regarding the outcome of treatment. The basics of treatment will also depend on the type of cancer a particular patient is diagnosed with. For instance, certain types of skin cancer, melanoma in situ, can be treated simply by removing the affected area. Other than cutting out the cancerous cells, there is rarely any kind of additional treatment required. Sometimes, however, if cancer has progressed beyond the in situ stage, additional treatments are required, including chemotherapy and radiation.
