How To Talk To A Friend About His Cancer Treatment.
The best way to talk to a friend about their cancer treatment is to just talk to them like you normally would. The worst thing we can do is to ignore the fact that our friend is being treated for an illness. Ask questions out of concern and out of curiosity. Be the person that you would normally be with them. If your friend doesn''t want to talk about things then don''t force the issue. If they want to talk about death and dying don''t say things like they are going to be ok. Ask them how they feel about things. Ask them how they are doing and truly mean it.
Rather than ask "is there anything that I can do?" try to be more specific. Offer to do specific things that they otherwise might not be able to do. Offer to do things in a way that would make it seem as though it isn''t a bother for you and that you would love to help out.
Support whatever decisions that your friend has decided to make about their treatment. Some people may decide to not continue with treatment. As hard as it may be, this is the time to support them.
Remember that we all make mistakes and say things that we later regret. Talking to someone that is being treated for cancer isn''t an easy thing to do. Be patient with yourself.
