Traditional Cancer Treatment.
Traditional cancer treatment includes three types of therapy. The first is the surgical removal of the tumor or tumors. This can be used in conjunction with either radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy focuses radioactive waves at the tumor in order to shrink the tumor to the point that it is not present any longer. Radiation is used frequently for breast cancer and cancers of the head and throat. Chemotherapy involves using intravenous drugs in order to shrink the tumor. Radiation therapy does not have a lot of side effects whereas chemotherapy frequently causes nausea, vomiting and hair loss as well as lowering the immune system of the patient.
