What Role Can Prayer Play in Cancer Treatment?
I was raised in a religious household. Though, there are some beliefs from that faith I still hold to, I don''t currently practice that or any other religion. I am, however, a spiritual person and pray often during the day.
Prayer is very powerful. It has gotten myself and my husband(together and separately)through the day with it''s general ups and downs. It especially has helped us during more trying times. For example, when I, myself, dealt with cancer.
I had Ewings Sarcoma(bone cancer). My right hip fractured and it was found it was due to a tumor. I went on to have four hip operations. The second two were because I had gotten an infection in my first prosthethic. I also had chemo and radiation.
The cancer I had is typically a childhood cancer. It''s not often kids get it. It''s even more rare for adults. I was only supposed to have four rounds of chemo. After the second one, my oncologist told me I''d need eight more. I had already prepared myself, mentally and emotionally, for four, I wasn''t planning on having twelve, altogether.
We utilized prayer during that time. I wasn''t able to work for a few years and my husband took what jobs he could, as, he was my caregiver. It also effected our finances. Prayer helped us with both those things. It''s been nine years and I have not had a reoccurrence. If we didn''t have a strong connection with God, it would have been more difficult to get past this. It''s possible, I might not have survived. Prayer is very important in our lives.
